I was recently tasked with designing and building an easily moveable hashira post. Believe it or not, there isn’t a lot of info online from folks who have done so. I was fortunate enough to be working directly under a huge exposed beam, so I came up with a pressure fit solution utilizing just some simple all-thread, nuts, and washers. The beam was drilled two inches to accept the all thread, which is positioned below and raised into place simply using the bottom nuts. Both top and bottom are then cranked up and down respectively, creating a very sturdy pressure fit. Even the burliest and brattiest bottoms won’t be able to move this thing, but the whole piece can be removed and set aside with a wrench and just a few minutes. The post itself is simply construction grade 6x6 sanded to 220 and finished with a light stain and two coats of polyurethane. Simple, cheap, and effective—just the way I like it.
